Beach Drive apple-pear cider
Beach Drive apple-pear cider is blended from the juice of our early-season apples and pears from the original pear trees that dominated our orchard. We press and ferment the apples and pears together, then age it for at least 10 months, producing a rich and smooth cider.
Alcohol by volume: 8.5%
2018 vintage: 26 cases
Available in: 750 ml bottles - $15
The 2018 vintage is dominated by Gravenstein apples and pears from an unnamed, 100+ year old pear tree that, until recently, was the largest fruit tree on the property. Additional early-season heirloom apples from our original trees round out the mix. The older, heirloom trees in our orchard produce differently each year, so every vintage will be unique. 2018 was a phenomenal year for pears, so this vintage is rich with pear sweetness and body.
This cider is named for our favorite scenic ride along the shores of Puget Sound, between Spin Cider and Port Orchard. This ride has a little bit of everything - rolling hills for a warm-up, a great descent to the water, a few miles of inland riding (look for the camel), then a long stretch along the waters of Rich Passage into Port Orchard. If we need to refuel, it's a stop for a doughnut at Nostalgia House Bakery, or a visit to the Port Orchard Farmers' Market, then we'll turn around and head back the way we came.
Ambitious option: From Port Orchard, head inland and tackle the hills on your path back to Spin Cider. Lazy option (yeah, it happens): Drive to South Colby Elementary and start the ride there - you get all the good stuff and few of the hills.
This ride never fails to remind us that we are lucky to live in such a beautiful area Take the ride
